Winner: Digital Art

"Art is a mirror, reflective of the moment, of inspiration and life. In my experience, art is the process of creating. The object is a record of the art. As a photographer, I identify with the subject, research, select the time and place, prepare my camera tools and immerse myself within the culture, looking, searching, responding, exposing the film with enthusiasm. At intervals, an object marks the moment of pause, the condition of expression. The mature artist will use the pause for reflection. The objectification of expression serves as a basis of analysis for both the artist and the critic. The object may find support or may not, which has little relationship to the quality of the creative process for the artist.

I was recently asked, "What drives your passion for creating digital photo/graphics?" An image comes to mind of Claude Monet on the Seine in his floating studio. At intervals, he sits back to study his work, sips a little wine, smokes his pipe. Inspired, he reaches for another canvas. Working digitally, I have hundreds of images within reach, to combine in unlimited ways. I can respond immediately to the path of my imagination."
