"The Aesthetic Gene"

Catalytic  CatalyticDetail
"Catalytic Bijectional Path Integrity" [detail on right]
30" x 30", Archival Pigmented Media on Canvas - 2005
The textual source for this work is from the Human DNA
sequence from RP11-108O1 on Chromosome 1...

The pieces selected to be featured here are from a body of work that was first exhibited in June 2005 in Pasadena, California. I was very fortunate that the LA Art Critic, Peter Frank, delivered a presentation about my work at the opening reception, and that the exhibition received highly complimentary reviews in ArtScene and ArtWeek.
All of my work is composed of text. The text source for these paintings is Human DNA. Each painting consists of the DNA sequence from a single gene on Human Chromosome I. I distribute the thousands of sequences of the individual gene in a combination of typeface sizes and colors and array them layer upon layer on canvas, creating an exquisitely textured visual tapestry. This expresses the reverence and wonder by which I am inspired in my study of human genetics, biogenetic engineering and nanotechnology.

My background is in the Arts, Humanities and Computer Sciences. It is very natural that I should be drawn to incorporating into my work the gene expression of what some are calling the "Biotech Century."

I am honored to be featured at ASCI and wish to express my appreciation to Cynthia Pannucci and to all the Board members of ASCI.
