questions leader bios The Breakouts are a new addition to our program this year... and we will need your cooperation as the best system is perfected. Rather than sending back your Breakout Selections via email and our tabulating this for several hundred people. Please do the following: Read over the questions & bios and select a first and second choice. Write selections down for the 4 panels and bring this to symposium. Then when the Breakout Session Locations are announced after each Panel, you will know exactly which group to join. If there are too many people for any one group, you may be asked to select one of your other choices. We hope to have your patience and suggestions for next year. Click on the Panel Number (below) to go to the listing of Questions/Leader Bios. (panel topics are abbreviated here) PANEL #1: There have been collaborations between scientists and artists in times past. The panel will report on and examine the nature of selected institutional collaborations to learn and hypothesize for the future. Breakout Leaders will examine various aspects of art-sci collaborations. PANEL #2: Techno-artists, humanistic scientists, and artists-engineers abound. Pre-millennial bandwagon or true Renaissance? This panel will seek to examine what is different about today from any other period (e.g. 1960s) of strong, art-science relationships and define some of the factors behind this most recent convergence. PANEL #3: Neurological science, cognitive science, and psychology have looked at creativity and arrived at some interesting conclusions that quantify the creative process. Is this, however, too simple a way to look at creativity? PANEL #4: As issues from bio-warfare to gene manipulation to the health of the biosphere become more urgent, what are the responsibilities of the artist? The scientist? What, if anything, does the artist need to know about the science? What, if anything, does the scientist need to know about art? Is there more need now for collaboration? |
