Memories Portfolio
In Leviathan, Hobbs comments that "Imagination and memory are but one thing, which for divers considerations hath divers names." Thus Hobbs recognized that the memory is not a static recording of the past; rather remembering is additionally both a selective and a dynamic process; the mind modifies "remembered" events to reinforce the needs of the present self-identity. Thus "remembered" events help define us now and point toward an imagined future.
It is the exploration of this dynamic use of memories that is the subject of this portfolio.
