• • • Artist Statement • • • This group of works explores 1950's and 1990's advertising imagery in an attempt to determine if and how we have progressed in our representations of women and men in advertising. I was surprised to discover that in some ways we have changed and in others ways we have not. In particular the 1990's images of men and women are much more sexual and charged while the 50's folks are innocent and coy. With this work I pose questions about how we define progress and how we view ourselves at the turn of the century.
