An average person in the developed world eats about 80 kilograms (176-pounds) of meat each year (FAO). The watercolors in my series, Why Choose?, address consumers’ choices in food. Most consumers are disconnected from food production, a disconnect that results in meats being disassociated from animals. This series uses mockery juxtaposition to reflect how most of us see little distinction between domestic animals and fruit -- both as unlimited sources of food from a grocery store. Each image depicts an animal gazing directly at the viewer; the watercolour medium allows for a light, uncluttered visualization. This artwork asks if we can create a world where we no longer need to doubt our daily nourishment, and where cruelty-free, tasty, nutritious food will be a norm.
