ENERGY WATER SCULPTURE PROJECT
ASCI's "Energy Water Sculpture" Project will be developed from the results of a 2017 international Open Call RFP (Request For Proposals) to commission five kinetic water sculptures. Because scientists believe the negative effects of climate change and the warming of our planet could be greatly reduced by the more rapid usage of renewable energy sources, the entertaining aspects of this art-science project will make it a novel emissary for today's more efficient renewable energy technologies.
All sculptures will have changing visual (and perhaps even audio) elements powered by renewable energy sources (sun, wind, and water). The project, initially envisioned in 1996, is currently seeking key partners and site approval. The NYC office of the renowned international engineering company, Arup, is our enthusiastic technical partner.
In 1996, Cynthia Pannucci (ASCI's founder-director) designed and fabricated her "Water-Strider" sculpture (above) as a working prototype to test UV appropriate materials, the solar-powered strobe lighting system, and the main float, in order to inform the future RFP.
"Water-Strider" Partners included: Electrical engineer, Philippe des Rioux, designed and donated the electrical controller, the fiber optics were donated by Lumenyte International, strobe light from Whelen Engineering, solar cell from Siemens, and four floats for the bug's foot-pads from Nelson A. Taylor company.
Stay-tuned for future project up-dates!
