Dreaming our future:
ASCI's ArtSci Projects in Development
“ArtSci2017 Symposium on Collaboration” will be held in NYC with the mission of highlighting exemplary art-sci collaborative projects that benefit society. It will provide a stimulating atmosphere for artists and scientists to meet and potentially find future collaborators. Especially today, compelling and imaginative cultural perspectives on scientific research are critically needed to make science research more publicly accessible and to broaden the viewpoints of those determining public policy about science and its funding. (early November 2017)
“Science Inspires Art: OCEAN" will be the theme for our annual, juried, international competition-exhibition at the New York Hall of Science; details with the launch of the Open Call in May. (September 2017-February 2018)
“Kinetic Water Sculpture Project” is a fun and provocative way to capture the public's imagination about renewable energy sources (wind, water/tidal, and sun), while revealing the urgent need for more rapid consumer adoption of renewables in order to reduce our collective carbon footprint. (2017-2019)

"ECO-AVATARS"(tm) will be a pilot educational platform for guiding students in the research/design/making of costumes and collaborative performance as a way for them to embody critical ecological concepts. This project's mission is to nurture future environmental stewards, problem-solvers, and enlightened future voters. (2017-2018)
"OCEAN EMPATHY" will be a weekend festival of short artist films, a performance, public panel discussion with artists and scientists, and public engagement activities surrounding the artists' scientifically-informed and deep concerns about our global ocean crisis and how it is affecting the amazing creatures living there. (summer 2017)
"Art Meets Biotechnology for Human & Environmental Health" will be a symposium acknowledging the New York City area as an important new Biotech Industry hub; we will survey the industry's current art-sci collaborations, and provide a platform for artists to share their work and meet researchers in these companies. (2018)
"I AM OCEAN," a city-wide, summer festival in NYC with the mission of creating a new public perception of our global ocean because of its critical role in sustaining all life on our planet. To accomplish this, we will attempt to galvanize the city's scientific and artistic communities to create imaginative art-sci public projects revealing man's dependence upon the health of our global ocean to maintain the important ecological systems that provide 70% of the oxygen we breathe, all of our fresh water, and regulates global temperatures. (2019)
